Technology Bust...and Boom

The summer seems to have passed me by, but I was keeping busy! Not long after my last post, my desktop hard drive was fried in a brown out. Yes, even with a surge protector. After trying to fix the power supply for several weeks, we pulled all our files off the hard drive and called it a day. I'd been thinking about a laptop for a long time anyway, and the loss of the desktop tower made me bump up the laptop purchase to the top of my list!

Then the technology bug must've bit me, because what followed was a whole string of technology upgrades. High-speed Internet, new cell phone, digital cable, etc. etc. I'd been getting by the way things were, but the upgrades are nice...especially for someone who works from home.

So, what have I been doing since May? Working on many wonderful projects such as copyediting the upcoming Keep Going: The Art of Perseverance by Joseph Marshall III, a renowned American Indian author; and proofreading Marie Hodge's John F. Kennedy: Voice of Hope; and writing some fun articles, including "If These Walls Could Speak: A Historic House Tour of the Lehigh Valley" for Lehigh Valley Magazine. I also accepted a project management assignment for some nonfiction books that I'm really excited about.

In fact, I've had the busiest summer since I went freelance 10 years ago, which--as my wise husband says--is a good problem to have. So my veggie and herb garden turned into a weed patch and the domestic chores sometimes went undone, but I can feel Autumn in the air, and after the hot wet summer, Autumn feels pleasing.

Upcoming: I'll be giving a talk on the Walking Purchase of 1737 at Quakertown's James A. Michener Public Library, Tuesday Sept. 19, 2006 @ 7 p.m. Stop by if you're in the area!
